After ten years of dedicated service to the Finn Harps team, Ciaran Coll is to be a most deserving recipient of testimonial events.
The St. Johnston man has been through the ups and downs with Harps since signing in 2009 when Paul Hegarty was the manager.
Prior to that Ciaran had played his underage football with the local Kildrum Tigers Club before moving to Foyle Harps. The left-back then spent 18 months with Scottish Premier Division side Hearts.
Two events have been confirmed to mark Coll’s big milestone. First, on Friday, September 28, a Golf Classic will be held at Ballybofey & Stranorlar Golf Club. Each four-ball team entry costs €100 and will include a food voucher for each playing member of a team. A timesheet is in operation and entries can be made by contacting Ballybofey & Stranorlar Golf Club on 074-9131093.
On Saturday, November 10, a Gala Dinner will be hosted in the Radisson Blu Hotel in Letterkenny. Tickets will be priced at €40 each. Further details on the Gala Dinner will be released in due course.
Finn Harps F.C. have wished the 27-year-old well with the upcoming events to mark his testimonial year.
“Finn Harps would like to thank Ciaran Coll for his dedicated service to the club in the League of Ireland over the past ten years. Ciaran has always shown immense pride in wearing the Harps jersey and that has been demonstrated in the high standards he has displayed on the field regardless of whether Harps were playing in the First or Premier Division. This season again Ciaran has played a massive role for Ollie Horgan and Paul Hegarty in getting us to the play-offs and hopefully now onto promotion back to the Premier Division. Finn Harps F.C. want to wish Ciaran Coll every success with the events to mark his testimonial.”
The Ciaran Coll Testimonial Committee will also be partnering with local charities, that will be announced in the coming days.
When Ciaran came to Finn Park first the likes of James Gallagher was the goalkeeper while Lifford man Conor Gethins was one of the strikers. Coll had to battle through seven seasons in the First Division before that big breakthrough came at the end of the 2015 campaign when the never to be forgotten B.J. Banda goal secured Finn Harps a place in the top flight of League of Ireland football.
Things were starting to turn a bit for the St. Johnston man and his teammates when the club had that decent FAI Cup run and got to the semi-final against St. Pat’s. And then came that never to be forgotten promotion to the top flight. It was a big step for Coll but it was great to be playing against sides like Dundalk and an even bigger honour for Ciaran to be captain having taken over from Kevin McHugh who retired at the end of the 2015 season.
That’s where Harps want to be again and the 27-year-old is now a member of a squad who have secured a place in the promotion play-offs after an impressive eight-match unbeaten league run. Last Friday night Coll played his part as Harps made sure of a place in the top four with a really well deserved 2-0 win over Galway Utd.
