Greencastle FC secured the Jackie Crossan premier division title last night after Glengad, the only team still in contention, drew 1-1 with Carn FC at the Crua.
The Chapel Lane men were expecting to wrap up the title this Sunday in St Patrick's Park, where a point against Carn would have been enough - but Glengad's failure to win their match means the title is already decided.
The Greeks, managed by Pat and Kevin McLaughlin, have won 14 out of 14 league games this season, and they can now enter the Inishowen League history books if they win their remaining two matches - a feat never before achieved.
Delighted manager Pat McLaughlin told Donegal Now: "Since I came in to manage this side four years ago, I have never wavered in my belief that this group of players would one day win the premier division title.
"Now that day has finally come, I am absolutely over the moon. The dedication and commitment they have shown this year has been unreal, and they deserve every bit of praise they get."
