Finn Harps were within seven minutes of reaching the semi-finals of this year's EA Sports League Cup.

Ollie Horgan's charges were leading the holders Derry City at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium with time ticking away.

But City drew level and then went on to win the game in extra-time.

Harps had an early penalty appeal - for handball - dismissed and Keith Cowan headed over with their best chance of the first half.

Jamie McDonagh was at the heart of much of what Derry did but the visiting defence stood firm.

Harps took the lead on 55 minutes through former Candystripes striker Nathan Boyle.

But City equalised on 83 minutes with David Parkhouse finding the target.

And Parkhouse delighted the Brandywell faithful by making it 2-1 four minutes into the first period of extra-time.

Incredibly Cowan and Mikey Place both had efforts cleared off the Derry line as the visitors sought to draw level.

And Caolan McAleer also went close.

Mark Coyle saw red for Harps late on and they left wondering just what might have been.
