There will be a significant Donegal involvement in this year's Sligo Stages Rally which is round four of the Triton Showers National Rally Championship.
The Connacht Motor Club, organisers of the FAAC Simply automatic Sligo Park Hotel Rally, has announced that they have secured the necessary permissions and support from all concerned and are committed to running the event that will now take place on Sunday week next, July 15th.
Earlier this week and due to the current exceptional weather conditions the Connacht Motor Club, under the guidance on clerk of the course, Robert Lyttle made the difficult decision not to go ahead with the event as originally scheduled for this Sunday.
Following on-going discussions with all the stakeholders the Connacht Motor Club met last evening and with required permissions and support decided to go ahead on the new date of Sunday week.
Importantly, they stated, “The exceptional weather and associated risks that influenced our original decision remain a concern. We will continue to monitor the conditions and will make a further statement on Saturday evening.”The club paid tribute to their sponsors, competitors, fellow motor clubs, the various local authorities and all residents along the route of the rally for their understanding and continued support.
Donegal's Declan Boyle and James O'Reilly in the Fiesta WRC will be among those expected to be in contention for the honours.
Monaghan’s Sam Moffett (Ford Fiesta WRC) clinched the Triton Showers National Rally Championship in style by winning the event last year.
