The annual feast of football descends upon us again as the Foyle cup takes place from Monday July 16 to Saturday July 21 and the Inishowen academy has teams from U11 to U19 taking part.

Preparations have gone well but in a hugely competitive category there are 60 teams competing across ten groups. Inishowen begin their tournament on Monday at Scroggy Road, Limavady, with games against Oxford and Don Boscos, before moving to Bishops Field on Tuesday to play Trojans.

They finish their group back at Scroggy Road on Wednesday with games against Illies and Newtowne before entering the knockout stages on Thursday.

Andrew McDermott’s  U12s will play all their group games in familiar surroundings at Carn FC and Chapel Lane in Greencastle on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday beginning with Glen Rovers who will be an  unknown quantity but it will be a tremendous experience for the players.

Patrick McGrenaghan’s squad also have a tough group. They start in Carrowmena against Institute  before playing Craigavon in Carrowmena again and finishing in Maginn against the Dragons.

The French side will be another unknown quantity but it will be a tremendous experience again for our young players.

Diarmuid O’Brien’s Under 14s are coming off the back of an excellent Kennedy cup campaign and they begin on Tuesday in Carn against  Cregagh Wanderers before moving to Greencastle to play St Marys on Wednesday and finishing against Newell FC from Belfast on Thursday in Aileach.

Martin McGrenaghan’s  side start on Tuesday in Moville  against Everton. On Wednesday they are in Carrowmena versus Tristar before ending in Maginn on Thursday against Ardstraw Youth in what looks like another competitive group.

Paul Doherty is in charge of the U17s and he will be looking to run the rule over players for next year’s inter league U18 side.

They play all three group games in Maginn at 7pm against Altrincham, Everton and Newry.

The Under 19s play in St Columbs Park, Templemore , and Aileach FC in that order, all at 7pm, and will face Ballymena, Dergview and Swilly Mariners.
