Letterkenny Blaze may have been defeated in their first ever appearance in a National Basketball Final - they lost 58 - 47 to Templeogue - but the Donegal team can hold their heads high.

To get to the final was in itself a major acheivement and augurs well for the future of basketball in Donegal.

Indeed, the progressive Letterkenny Blaze club has over 300 members and there has been a steady rise in the game's popularity.

Although the Letterkenny team, coached by Ian McGeever, began well and led during the first quarter, they were playing catch-up for most of the game.

As McGeever acknowledged afterwards they just did score as many baskets as they would expect to.

The hope is, however, that Letterkenny Blaze can learn from this and get back again to more finals in the years to come.

Our video shows shows the Letterkenny players getting their runners-up medals and being the subject of considerable praise on Aertv which streamed the whole final live.
