Derry's James McClean was the hero for the Republic of Ireland as they beat Austria 1-0 in Vienna in their World Cup qualifier.

The West Brom player got the only goal early in the second half.

McClean left the field injured but Martin O'Neill's side held on for a third win in a row in the qualifiers.

Seamus Coleman and Shane Duffy both impressed for Ireland.

Bournemouth's Harry Arter made his competitive debut while Dundalk's Daryl Horgan was an unused substitute.
