There were a few nervous heads in the dugout when Moville U18s were 1-0 down with 15 minutes to go in the recent Inishowen Youth & Schoolboys League U18 cup final at Maginn Park, but  John Canning wasn't one of them.

The Moville boss had every faith his players would deliver the goods, and though they may have left it late, he says the outcome was never in doubt.

He told the Inish Times: "You know I'm not a big-headed person, but I can honestly say I never once thought we would lose the match.

"Given the quality of our subs bench, I knew we could make the changes that would turn things around for us.

"John Harkin is an absolute trojan in midfield, so bringing on Eoin (O'Doherty) and moving Ryan (McColgan) in there meant we had those two boys in alongside him and the fresh legs made all the difference."

And Canning's positivity clearly rubbed off on his players, who were a completely changed side in the second half.

"You have to remember these are young players," he said, "and playing in a cup final can bring out the nerves. I think that's why the first half was so quiet.

"At half time I said 'boys, eat your oranges or whatever, and then we're going to go out and win this cup', and fair play to them they went out and did exactly that.

"I have to give every credit to the Cockhill boys, who never once made it easy for us.

"The second half was a brilliant spectacle from both sides and it bodes very well for the future of football in Inishowen."
