Later today sees the announcement of the FIFA Puskas Goal of the Year award, and local football fans are being urged to give one last push to Ireland’s Stephanie Roche’s bid to win the award.

Roche is aiming to be the first Irish player and the first female footballer to win the award.

Although she faces stiff opposition from World Cup goal scorers James Rodriguez and Robin van Persie who have also been short listed, her stunning strike for Peamount United is widely considered to be the pick of the three nominees.

That fact alone won’t win the Ireland international the coveted award however and she needs your vote by clicking http://www.fifa.com/ballon-dor/puskas-award/video=2463789/index.html on the FIFA website.

The statistics from the original poll of nominees showed that Ireland was just 0.1% behind Rodriguez’ home nation of Columbia at 11,960 unique visits to the FIFA website so a handful of votes could therefore prove the difference and every vote counts.
