Finn Harps have been hit with the news that in-form central defender Sam Todd will miss tomorrow night’s big FAI Senior Cup second round tie again Dundalk at Oriel Park (kick-off 7.45).

It will mean a reshuffle at the heart of the defence for Ollie Horgan against the top team in the country.  Harps already faced a mammoth task to create an FAI Cup giant killing act but the absence of the big Carndonagh man will make it an even more difficult task now. Stephen Kenny’s outfit are in super form at the moment, leading the League of Ireland Premier Division by three points from last season’s champions Cork City. Harps have been on a fine run themselves recently, going eight matches unbeaten, but barring a massive upset that is almost certain to end at the Co Louth venue.

Manager Ollie Horgan says that while the priority is securing a place in the First Division play-off, all the attention this week has been on a game-plan to curb the huge threat that Dundalk have going forward.

“We all know the quality that is in the Dundalk squad. Their subs bench and even some of the lads that don’t make the match day squad are all players who would likely start in most other Premier Division sides. Stephen Kenny deserves a lot credit for what he has done there and that is demonstrated by them being top of the table again. We have to respect that and try put a game plan in place that will hopefully stifle their attacking potential and see where that gets us. Patrick Hoban is firing in the goals all season and Michael Duffy has been in super form attacking from wide areas. Our lads are under no illusions about the task ahead. Hopefully it’s a game that will stand us in good stead for the three league that we have left. The worse thing that can happen tomorrow night is that we get a hiding and that could have a really negative impact on morale” Horgan said.

In team news Sam Todd is suspended, Adam Duffy remains out and while Paddy McCourt was named in the subs for the Athlone game last Friday night the ex-Celtic man is still troubled by injury. Ciaran Coll and Mark Coyle played against Athlone despite carrying knocks and so there are doubts over the pair’s fitness for tomorrow night.

Injured: Adam Duffy

Doubtful: Paddy McCourt, Ciaran Coll, Mark Coyle

Suspended: Sam Todd
