Five Donegal students scooped awards at the recent North West Regional College Sports Awards.

Students and staff from North West Regional College gathered at a special prize ceremony to celebrate the achievements of the students from the various Sports Clubs and Societies of the NWRC.

This event is now a firm highlight in the calendar year at the college, and saw the presentation of sports awards to players of the year in a number of categories, including awards for the overall sportsman and woman of the year.

Special Guest was Institute FC Manager Paul Kee.

The winners from Donegal were -

Kathleen McNaught from Moville won Judo Player of the Year.

Niamh Mailey from Convoy received the Ladies soccer Player of the Year Award from Paul Kee, Manager Institue FC.

Niamh Connolly from Fahan received the Ladies soccer Players’ Player of the Year Award from Paul Kee, Manager Institute FC and Bernie Rutherford, NWRC lecturer.

The Ladies GAA Player of the Year Award went to Catherine McCloskey, and Ladies GAA Players’ Player of the Year went to Caroline Gallagher, Buncrana. They collected their awards from NWRC Lecturers Michelle Gormley-McLaughlin and Bernie Rutherford, and Special Guest Paul Kee.

James Walton and Declan Donaghy from Carndonagh with NWRC lecturer Sinead O’Brien received their awards for Men’s Athlete of the Year.
