Letterkenny Athletic Club are planning to host Donegal’s first Sub 4 Minute Mile Challenge this weekend on Sunday, July 13th at their International Track and Field Meeting.

The event will be held at the Danny McDaid Athletics Track, located at the Aura Leisure Centre, Letterkenny. The Danny McDaid Athletics Track was named in honour of Donegal’s most decorated runner of all time.

Last year’s International Track and Field Meeting was a huge success and Letterkenny Athletic Club hope that this year’s will be even better with the prospect of Donegal’s first ever Sub 4 Minute Mile Challenge taking place!

A range of top athletes, both national and international, have been lined up for the event.

Letterkenny’s own Mark English, who has a personal best of 1:45:77 in the 800m, will be running in the Letterkenny Credit Union Men’s 400m. Also among those running the Men’s 400m for the Letterkenny Credit Union is Trinidad and Tobago’s Machel Cedenio, and Kenya’s Carvin Nkanata.

The Arena 7 Men’s mile is set to feature seven Sub 4 Minute Milers, along with seven other athletes who are within a second of breaking the four minute barrier.

Voodoo Venue Women’s 800m has athletes who will be taking part in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, including Nikki Hamblin, Katie Kirk, Emily Dudgeon and Hannah Tarver, Emily Lipari, Celia Peters, and Ciara Everard.

There are a whole host of other top national and international athletes lined up for this Sunday’s events which include a 1 hour track race, Women’s 200m, Men’s 100m, Men’s 1 mile, Women’s 1500m, Men’s High Jump, Women’s Long Jump and many more.

This fantastic sporting event gets underway at 4.00pm, while a Juvenile Programme will be held from 3.00pm – 4.00pm.
