Burt’s hurlers went goal crazy at O’Donnell Park on Saturday to claim their fourth successive county title at the expense of familiar sparring partners MacCumhaills.
The Ballybofey side gave as good as they got for long periods of this final but Burt’s superior firepower, where five of their six forwards found the net, ultimately won them the final that was played before a partisan crowd at the Letterkenny venue.
A goal late in the first half gave the Inishowen side a seven point lead at the break and although MacCumhaills started the second half well, Burt’s prolifacy in front of goal meant it was always a game they had control of.
The Ballybofey side’s cause wasn’t helped by the dismissal of county star Paddy Hannigan midway through the second half as an Enda McDermott goal with 10 minutes left effectively ended the game as a contest.
Some of Burt’s attacking play was irresistible in that second half as MacCumhaills piled players forward at the other end but couldn’t find a way past Burt ‘keeper Paul Burns.
The game was over as a contest when Justin McGee became the second MacCumhaills player to be sent off late on.
Burt now focus their attentions on Antrim opposition in the quarter finals of the Ulster Intermediate Championship.
