Around 1,300 people took part in the Walled City Derry Marathon today, with hot conditions testing many runners to the limit.

Once again there was a large Donegal contingent.

See tomorrow's Derry News for a special pull-out of the event and all the results.

There will also be coverage in this week's Letterkenny Post, Inish Times, Donegal Post and Finn Valley Post.

This video shows the start and was posted on the Derry Marathon facebook page. Were you there?

The race started beside the Everglades Hotel on Prehen Road and finished in Guildhall Square.

Derry athlete Mark Mullan has finished third behind Kenyan runners Dan Tanui - who has set a new course record - and Eric Koech, who won last month's Belfast Marathon.

Tanui finished in a time of 2.19:44, while Koech crossed the line at 2.25: 30.

Mullan runs with Spartans.

Mayo native Heather Noone was the first woman over the finish line.

Thousands of people lined the route to support the participants.

Due to the race there was some traffic disruption in the city centre and on some roads around the course.
