Ireland’s Sommer Lecky has won a silver medal in the high jump at the Under 20 Championships in Finland.

The hugely talented Irish teenager is a member of Finn Valley AC.

From Castlederg, she won the medal with a 1.90m first-time clearance.

You can see her great jump here.

This was Ireland’s first individual medal at the games since 1994.

Lecky’s second place finish also means that she automatically qualfies for the European Championships in Berlin next month.

She is pictured with coach Niall Wilkinson and Irish team manager Neil Martin.

Yesterday, the Irish women’s 4x100m relay team made history by winning silver medals in a new national U20 record of 43.90 seconds at the IAAF World U20 Athletics Championships in Tampere, Finland today (July 14).

The quartet of Molly Scott (SLOT), Gina Akpe-Moses (Blackrock-Louth), Ciara Neville (Emerald) and Patience Jumbo-Gula (St Gerard’s Dundalk) struck silver narrowly behind the Germans who ran 43.82 with Great Britain and Northern Ireland third in 44.05.
