Termon 3-12 Mourneabbey 1-13
Termon ladies have won the Tesco Homegrown Ladies All-Ireland Senior Club Championship Final on a score-line of Termon 3-12 Mourneabbey 1-13.
It's a wonderful achievement for the Donegal club and history has been made.
The Munster champions Mourneabbey started brightly racing into a three point lead early on, O’Sullivan and Fitzgerald getting the points.
Geraldine McLaughlin was being well marshalled by at times up to 4 Cork defenders but that didn’t stop the Termon forward hitting the net after 12 minutes to put the Donegal side into the lead. Termon would rue the frees given away in the first half as each time they were punished by the prolific Laura Fitzgerald. Grainne McDaid was shown a yellow card with less than 10 minutes left in the first half which left the Termon girls with 14 players for the remaining of the half.
Mourneabbey tagged on three more points before the hooter leaving the half time score Termon 1-03 Mourneabbey 0-10.
The second half started off with both sides exchanging points before Geraldine McLaughlin added another point from a free before she took the game by the scuff of the neck, netting another goal and two points to shock the Munster girls. Mourneabbey were reduced to 14 themselves with 15 mins remaining and Termon took full advantage. Great work from Sharon McLaughlin, who fed Geraldine for yet another point. It was becoming clear that the Donegal ladies had much more in the tank than their Cork counterparts as they ran at their opponents throughout the second half.
Once more the plaudits must go to star forward Geraldine McLaughlin who completed a deserved hat-trick with 10 minutes remaining to all but seal the title, indeed she was denied a fourth goal when the referee inexplicitly refused to award a penalty to the forward with just minutes left. But it didn’t matter in the end as the Termon girls ran out deserving winners on a score-line of Termon 3-12 Mourneabbey 1-13. Let the celebrations begin.
