I went a long distance for my Diary last week…all the way down to Limerick and it was well worth the journey, not just for the opening but to meet up with my good friend and Minister Michael Ring.
International brand McGettigan’s launched their latest addition to its Irish pubs in Limerick City last Thursday night. Located in Limerick City Hotel (formerly Jury’s Inn Hotel) on Lower Mallow Street, this is the seventh McGettigan’s Irish Pub in Europe and the Middle East.
The hotel was packed and the atmosphere was electric for the big night, guests were treated to some delicious food and drinks for the night.
The official opening was performed by none other than the Minister for Sport and Tourism Michael Ring just after 9pm. He addressed a huge crowd who packed into McGettigans Bar. He complimented the family and wished them well their latest venture, which he said would be a huge asset to the people of Limerick.
Speaking on the night, Dennis McGettigan, CEO of the Bonnington and McGettigan Group, said; “Over the past four years we feel we have represented Ireland fantastically in Dubai; we have promoted Irish music, culture and cuisine to the global expat community. Bringing that experience home – to Letterkenny last year and now Limerick – is a very proud development for our family.
In total, the McGettigan’s Pub Group employs over 250 staff members with further expansion planned for 2014 and 2015. Limerick will employ around 30 local staff initially.
McGettigan’s Pub was first opened in Ireland in 1964 on Queen Street, Dublin by Jim McGettigan. The business has since expanded into Letterkenny last November, Abu Dhabi and Dubai – with three locations at Jumeirah Lakes Towers, Dubai World Trade Centre and Dubai International Airport.
Representing the McGettigan family in Limerick and welcoming their guests to the official opening were Jim, Martin, Dennis, Brian, James and Lorraine.
Singer-songwriter Paddy Casey took to the stage and put on an outstanding performance which was enjoyed thoroughly by one and all.
