A planning application for permission to open a new Chinese restuarant in the premises of what was a well known pub in the heart of Killybegs are still being considered by Donegal Co. Council.

Yaming Lim is seeking planning approval for a change of use of the bar and lounge, formerly Fawlty's Bar, to a Chinese restaurant.

Since the application was lodged, a submission has been received from the chairman of the Killybegs History and Heritage Committee, Derek Vial.

He points out that the premises in question is "probably the oldest surviving structure from the eighteenth century on Killybegs' main street."

Known as the Corn Store in the past, the building was the subject of many alterations in the 1960s and 1970s.

In his written submission, he says that "any future alterations or changes of use should relfect this heritage and value to our historic town and region."

He also says that regard should be given to appropriate signage use and design.
